The Creator in You

Sheldon Steele

Have you ever said to yourself, "I'm not the creative type"? Maybe creativity feels like a distant world reserved for painters with canvases or musicians with instruments. But what if creativity isn't limited to dance moves or song lyrics? What if it's already woven into the fabric of your daily life-waiting to be named, discovered, and nurtured?

At the Center for Vocational Formation, we believe that creativity is not a luxury for the few, but rather it's a calling for us all. A direct invitation from the Creator of the Heavens and Earth. In our recent video, "The Creator in You," we're reminded that God didn't stop creating in Genesis. Instead, He extended an invitation for us to join Him in the ongoing work of bringing beauty, order, and goodness into the world.

Genesis 1:27 tells us that we are made in the image of a Creator. That means creativity isn't a personality trait-it's part of our spiritual DNA. Whether you're organizing a spreadsheet, designing a lesson plan, caring for a loved one, or starting a business venture, you're participating in the divine rhythm of creation. Creativity shows up in the kitchen, the classroom, the garden, and the boardroom. It's any moment where heaven meets earth through your hands.

Exodus 35 speaks of artisans whom God filled with "skill, ability, and knowledge in all kinds of crafts"-not just for art or performance sake, but for the building of sacred space and the advancement of the Kingdom. Isn't that what each of us is doing in our own way? Cultivating sacred spaces through our work, our communities, our families, our care, our ideas, our presence.

So today, we ask: Where might you be underestimating your own creativity? Where is God inviting you to see your ordinary moments as sacred acts of co-creation?

Let this be your reminder: You are more creative than you think. And your creativity, however it looks, is a beautiful reflection of the One who made you.

Keep creating. Keep participating. The world needs what only YOU can bring.
